Nelson K. Sewankambo

Dr. Nelson Sewankambo is professor of Internal Medicine and Principal of the College of Health Sciences at Makerere University in Uganda. He is director of the African Initiative, a five-year partnership project with CIGI and Makerere University. He is involved in research projects dealing with infectious diseases, health care training and delivery in Africa, and in knowledge translation, which entails translating research results into policy and action. In addition to his role as principal, he is the chair of ISHReCA (Initiatives for Strengthening Health Research Capacity in Africa), co-director of the Academic Alliance for AIDS Care and Prevention in Africa, and vice president of Accordia Global Health Foundation. In 2010 he was nominated for the Grand Silver award at Karolinska Institutet. In 2007, Dr. Sewankambo received an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa from McMaster University. In 2006, he was awarded a fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians (FCRP), London. Dr. Sewankambo has an M.B.Ch.B in medicine and an M.Med in internal medicine from Makerere University, and an MSc in clinical epidemiology from McMaster University.

Le Dr Nelson Sewankambo est professeur de médecine interne et directeur du College of Health Sciences à l’Université Makerere en Ouganda. Il est directeur de l’African Initiative, un projet de partenariat de cinq ans avec CIGI et l’Université Makerere. Il participe à des projets de recherche sur les maladies infectieuses, l’enseignement et la prestation des soins de santé en Afrique, ainsi qu’à l’adaptation des connaissances, qui implique de transformer des résultats de recherche en politiques et en actions.
