Dr. Millan Patel is Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at the
University of British Columbia with teaching and clinical care responsibilities and an
active clinical research program.
Millan Patel obtained his MD and Master of Science in Genetics degrees at the
University of Alberta and completed residency training in Medical Genetics at the
Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Pursuing a research interest in bone biology,
Millan studied mouse models of rare human bone disorders and circadian clocks in bone
and brain during his post-doctoral research at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston,
Texas. He has studied vitamin D receptor polymorphisms, vitamin D coactivator
polymorphisms and participated in the development of a therapy for hereditary vitamin D
resistant rickets. He is the co-director for BC of the Canadian Multicentre Osteoporosis
Study and a co-founder and Research Director of the Rare Disease Foundation.
