MARK A. WAINBERG

Dr. Mark Wainberg was instrumental in the development of the anti-HIV drug 3TC, and has also been a pioneer in diverse areas of HIV research, including HIV drug resistance. He has also worked tirelessly as an HIV activist and advocate of access to anti-HIV drugs for all at need. He served as President of both the International AIDS Society between 1998-2000 and the Canadian Association of HIV Research (1995-1997). He has published over 400 articles on each of clinical and basic science aspects of HIV, and is on the IS1 list of most highly cited scientists in the world.
