After completing medical and subspecialty training, Jack Kitts completed a three-year tour with the Canadian Forces before joining the Department of Anesthesiology at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. He led the development of the hospital’s Preoperative Assessment Clinic and became its first medical director. In 1995, he was appointed Chief of Anesthesia at the Civic Hospital and Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa.
In 1998, he became Vice President-Medical Affairs and led the medical staff during the merger of three hospitals and five large programs into The Ottawa Hospital. He completed his MBA in 2001 and was named President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital in 2002.
