Aleksandra Leligdowicz

Dr. Aleksandra Leligdowicz completed a BSc at the University of Manitoba on a Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship and obtained an MD from McGill University. During her medical studies, she was awarded the Rhodes Scholarship for doctoral studies focusing on HIV-2 immunology at the Wheatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine in Oxford and the Medical Research Council in The Gambia, West Africa with Prof. Sarah Rowland-Jones, Sir Andrew McMichael, and Dr. Tao Dong. While in West Africa, she set up a research laboratory in a remote part of Guinea Bissau, where she studied the role of the cellular immune system in disease non-progression in HIV-2-infection. Her D.Phil thesis was awarded the Nuffield Department of Medicine Graduate Research Prize. She is currently at the University of British Columbia in an Internal Medicine residency program, aiming to continue a career in understanding health and disease in the developing world.

La Dre Aleksandra Leligdowicz a complété un B. Sc. à l’Université du Manitoba avec une bourse Leader of Tomorrow et obtenu un doctorat en médecine de l’Université McGill. Durant ses études en médecine, elle a reçu la bourse de la fondation Rhodes pour des études doctorales portant sur l’immunologie du VIH-2 au Wheatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine à Oxford et au Medical Research Council en Gambie, en Afrique de l’Ouest, avec la professeure Sarah Rowland-Jones, sir Andrew McMichael et la Dre Tao Dong. Pendant son séjour en Afrique de l’Ouest, elle a établi un laboratoire de recherche dans une région reculée de la Guinée-Bissau, où elle a étudié le rôle du système immunitaire cellulaire dans la non-progression de la maladie dans une infection au VIH-2. Sa thèse de doctorat lui a permis de remporter le prix de la recherche Nuffield Department of Medicine Graduate Research Prize. Elle est actuellement inscrite à l’Université de la Colombie-Britannique dans un programme de résidence en médecine interne, dans le but de poursuivre une carrière en compréhension de la santé et des maladies dans les pays en développement.
